VILLAGE SMITHY

Singleton Open Air Museum - West Sussex

The forge from Southwater, built about 1850 and dismantled then reconstructed at Singleton in 1971.
Like many craft workshops, the Southwater Forge was a very rough and simple building using materials which were easy to hand ..... timber from the sawmills across the road, and tiles and bricks from the brickyard down the road. Rough offcuts were used and the tiles were an assorted seconds.
