Market halls like this one, from Titchfield near Fareham in Hampshire, were once general throughout England. The earliest which have survived are from the late 15th and early 16th centuries and the majority were timber-framed. Many were demolished in the 18th and 19th centuries, as they were occupying space needed for other uses. Titchfield Market Hall dates from 1620. It was dismantled in 1971 and rebuilt at Singleton in 1974.
