SECEDA ESCALATOR PASSAGE

Ortisei - South Tyrol - Italy

In 2000 a new pedestrian passage was opened in Ortisei and is the first construction of this type and these dimensions in the entire Alps.
It connects the village centre by the river with the Luis Trenker Promenade & the Kirchplatz area up on the very steep-sided valley, and then goes on to even higher up... to the valley station of the Seceda ski and hiking area. The passage has become very popular and is used by more than a million residents and non-residents every year.
The tunnel itself is open 24 hours a day, but the escalators are turned off during the night.
The La Curta-Seceda passage consists of 3 sections of escalators and 2 sections of covered moving walkways in a tunnel......all both up & down. It's brilliant! It moves pedestrians effortlessly (although you can of course still walk on them as well!) and speedily from one part of the town to another on which was previously quite a long steep walk.
