THE VASA GATE & KOSCIUSKO MONUMENT

Krakow - Poland

This gate is the public exit from the Wawel Castle area.
Kosciusko, 1746 – 1817, was a Polish general and military leader. He is a national hero in Poland, Lithuania, and the United States. He led the 1794 uprising against Russia and Kingdom of Prussia.
Prior to this he had fought in the American Revolution as a colonel in the Continental Army. In 1783, in recognition of his dedicated service during the Revolution, he was given the rank of brigadier general and became a naturalized citizen of the United States. His body was interred in a crypt of the Wawel Cathedral.
