Just an hour or so on a damp and very windy morning.
Barmouth is a small resort and harbour situated in Cardigan Bay at the head of the wide and impressive River Mawddach estuary.
In the mid 16th century it was recorded as a small port, but during the 18th and 19th centuries it became an important ship building centre.
Barmouth's old town extends up the steep alleys on the mountainside behind the High Street where slate-roofed cottages seem to be almost on top of one another in a jumble of steps and terraces.
