I like the way the door abstracts the child here. I often use doorways to help tell the story. In this shot --http://www.pbase.com/image/40190407 -- which I also made in Laos, I backed off a bit to include all the shoes and the broom that give the image a base and additional context. In your case, only half the door is used. If you had backed off a bit, your story might have been strengthened by increasing the scale incongruity between the child and the door.
