from "The Grace of Intimacy"
This is my all time favorite image. It is the portrait of the life of a nun--a strong hand, simple possessions, and Jesus. I had asked permission to photograph the sisters at the Fatima Convent of The Daughters of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, and the time I had to shoot amounted to two hours total. But I had weeks to prepare myself for what I wanted to reveal, and when I finally was there taking photographs, what came to me was not shutter speed and ISO and the various buttons on my camera.
What flowed through me was the sense of the holy romance present in the sisters' lives. A romance I did, however briefly, felt a part.

from "Somewhere You've Never Been"
I love this image because I am the only one who has it. LOL. Seriously, the other photographer present at the time had his arms full of his beautiful wife.
I had the chance to learn with Lawrence Rispher in Singapore, and this is the best image I took away from that weekend. It reminds me of my muse--light--and it also nudged a suggestion into my photography. The suggestion that perhaps, my style, if it were to emerge, would be a storyteller's eye. A writer by training, it makes sense that the way an image makes sense to me is through the story it suggests.

i learn by going where i need to go
from "Muse"
This was taken with an old point and shoot. I like it because when I took it I had no idea about the rule of thirds or dynamic light or any of the other good stuff photogs are supposed to breathe into their images.
It just looked like a nice pic to take, so I took it. It reminds me now, that no matter what you have in your head, you still need to shoot from the heart.

and i love the rain
This is a special image because it is the very first portrait I have ever taken.
And it was taken on the day when I was invited to shoot with Manny Librodo for the first time. He knew I only ever took photographs of weeds and buildings and shadows on walls, but he urged me to come for this shoot.
So I did. And oh, boy. That afternoon, I upgraded my camera and bought a new, good lens.
And never looked back since.

who
from "BrOkEn"
This was a personal catharsis of a photosession, and I learned a lot.
I learned that I like concepts more than color, sometimes.
And that it was OK to experiment, to push a vision, because in the end you got something that made you like what you did.

from "Losing Your Divinity"
This one is special because it is the image that made me realize I like faceless portraits.
That human emotion is more than the parts of the whole.

from "Leah on the Nature of Sacrifice"
My friend Leah told me stories about why she sacrificed her head of hair to show support for a friend.
In that hour I realized that the face had so much to reveal, and patience was the photographer's tool to make of an image a cartography of this emotional landscape.
