Hi Alida,

I've been searching for the longest time a picture from my old neighborhood in Brooklyn and never had any luck. Today I decided to try again and when your picture popped up I was got very excited. I grew up and lived at 75 Jefferson Street, from 1964 to 1978. I went to PS 145 and JHS 111 and I remember your parents deli, your brother Peter made the best sandwiches around. I hope to see more pictures of the neighborhood. Thanks a bundle.

HI JOHN; I'M HOPING YOU WILL COME BACK TO ALIDA'S PAGE AGAIN IN SEARCH OF MORE INFO ON UNCLE AL. THEN YOU WILL SEE HER NOTE AND MINE. I RECENTLY FLEW BACK TO N.Y AND SAW ALIDA AND OTHERS FOR THE FIRST TIME IN OVER 30 YARS . IT WAS GREAT. I AM ALIDA'S COUSIN--VICTOR'S DAUGHTER. . MY FATHER WAS A MILK MAN BUT YOU COULD FIND HIM AND UNCLE JOE OCASSIONALLY AT UNCLE AL'S STORE. WE LIVED ON JEFFERSON STREET (AROUND THE CORNER FROM "THE STORE"). I TOO, WENT TO PS 145 ALONG WITH MY COUSINS. MY COUSIN MARY AND I HAVE THE SAME FIRST AND MIDDLE NAME AND WERE IN THE SAME GRADE, SO I WAS CALLED BIG MARY AND SHE WAS CALLED LITTLE MARY( FOR OBVIOUS REASONS). I KNEW JOHNNY BONSIGNORIE TOO. IN FACT, I HAVE A PICTURE OF THE BUNCH OF US TOGETHER. (I'LL HAVE TO GO FIND IT AND POST IT LATER). MARY AND I USED TO PLAY IN THE SCHOOL YARD TOO. IT'S A SMALL WORLD, ISN'T IT.

John, Your story brought tears to my eyes. You did not leave an email address and I would love to answer you. Yes, this is the same Al from the store, my father. Peter is my brother and of course we know Johnny Bonsignorie. My father love hot peppers and it makes me so happy to hear that his recipe still lives on. Wait till I tell my siblings!
Please email me at AlidaE@aol.com. I would love to talk to you and find out how you found this photo! If you check my Flickr account you will see photos of the old neighborhood! Alida

Hi,
My name is John Monaco and I lived on Melrose St. between Evergreen & Stanwick. (My mother was a GRECO) Yesterday I picked some hot peppers from my garden and while I was stuffing them with anchovies I got into a conversation with my mother who is 97 yrs. old. She told me that the receipe was from her mother. She went on to say that my grandmother got the receipe from Al, the fellow who owned the grocery store around the corner. How funny is it that I get these pictures today. I do remember Al's son Peter. I was a good friend of John Bonsignorie(forgive the spelling) who, I believe, was related to Al. John and I went to PS 145 together and spent many, many hours playing ball in the school yard.
