Hi and welcome to my gallery! I am a freelance photojournalist cum writer based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The interest in photography came by chance through my days in writing where the images that went with my articles seem to portray a lot of what I wanted to express. This challenged myself to learn the art and slowly, but definitely, I began enjoying it very much.
Today, I photograph and write my own stories for various publications in and out of Malaysia, as well as stringing for the Associated Press (www.ap.org), an American based news/photo agency. I specialise mainly on entertainment, sports and lifestyle subjects. My main subject, I'd say, is the sport of squash, something which I played competitively as a junior. The pace and speed of the game, plus the lighting conditions make it a very challenging subject to photograph.
I supply photographs to many major specialist squash publications in Europe, Americas and Asia. Amongst my biggest squash based assignments include the 2004 Dutch Open, 2004 Hong Kong Open, 2004 and 2005 World Opens in Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur. This year, I have covered the Qatar Airways Challenge in Hyderabad(India), Cathay Pacific/Credit Suisse Privilege Open in Hong Kong, Kuala Lumpur Open and Malaysian Open. Most of my squash work are done for British based Squash Site (www.squashsite.co.uk), American based Squash Talk (www.squashtalk.com) and at other magazines such as Planete Squash (France), Squash Life (Netherlands) and Squash Magazine (USA). I've also had two photo exhibitions on squash photos in Malaysia and I am truly grateful to CIMB (www.cimb.com) for sponsoring my events.
My writing and photography work has also been published in leading Malaysian newspapers and magazines including The Star, Malaysian Business, Men's Health, Malaysian Airlines' in flight magazine Going Places, Recess, New Man, FHM and Men's Review. On the advertising side, my clients have included Great Eastern, Nestle and Technifibre. Additionally, I also photograph weddings and events through word of mouth recommendations. I generally prefer photojournalistic style for weddings and events, as I feel these really capture the moments.
