Alex, getting the birds head in focus is what most birders look for; getting a view that shows 'field markings' is also important - this photo does exceptional in both respects.

I think it would look good if you sharpen the tree more on the right side, looks a little unnatural right now. you could use a gradient as a mask then apply a blur to the left side to make the out of focus area more pleasing then on another layer sharpen the right side.
On birdphotographers.net they are saying that the perches should always be as sharp as the bird or it looks like you cut and pasted.
Other then the background the bird looks good though.
