In june 2010 I spent a few days in Spain, visiting the National Park of Monfragüe, known for its large number of rare raptors among other south european birds. The park consists mostly of cultivated land with lagre mountains and cliffs where the raptors nest. Two rivers, Tietar and Tajo, make the scene even more stunning as their green water passes through the mountains.
Mounfragüe is a great place for birds all year round but in summer it is best in the morning(too hot during the day) when the raptors use the rising warm air to lift from their nesting cliffs. This also offers some fantastic opportunities for photography as these large birds swoop by only a few meters away!
I will be adding images during the coming days and hope you enjoy! Don't forget to comment!
