Local photographer named Portrait Photographer of the Year

Singapore photographer Albert Beng Choon Lam FMPA FSWPP DipPP has been awarded some top prizes for his work, winning the Avant Garde Portrait and the Press/PR categories, in addition to the main title of Overseas Portrait Photographer of the Year at the recent British Professional Photography Awards.

Hundreds of professional photographers from around the world were joined by representatives from the major photographic companies at the glittering Awards ceremony held on 28th October at the Hilton Hotel in Newcastle. Photographers were presented with their accolades by the event’s host, former Spandau Ballet frontman, Tony Hadley.

The Awards are a joint initiative between the Master Photographers Association and the British Institute of Professional Photographers. Membership of the associations is restricted to full time professional photographers who must qualify to the minimum required Licentiateship standard. Both organisations exist to promote and maintain standards of excellence and professionalism within the photographic industry.
Chairman of the judging panel, Vincent O‘Byrne FMPA FBIPP M.QEP was delighted with this year’s entries: “The expertise and creativity that went into all the winning images is testament to the skills of today’s professional photographer. The standard of the photographs was truly remarkable. It is a great honour to win such prestigious prizes - I hope Albert uses his Awards to further his career.”
