Cathedral Church of St. Andrew, WELLS, Somerset

Though Wells had been a Cathedral city since the early tenth century, the present Cathedral was commenced about 1175 and consecrated in 1239. Work continued on additions till the work was substantially complete by about 1350. The western towers were added during the next hundred years. Wells has a number of unique features, including the Chapter House stairs, Chain Gate, Vicars Hall and Close and above all, the West Front.
