Monastery of Santa Maria de Alcobaça, ALCOBAÇA, Portugal
Founded by King Afonso Henriques in 1153 to celebrate his defeat of the Moors, the church was complete by 1223. King Diniz commissioned the main cloister in 1308 and the tombs of King Pedro I and his wife face one another across the transepts. Santa Maria is Portugal's largest church.
