Destruction of Bluegrass region. Construction of man-made replacements.
When we moved to our new home, between our small yard and the new houses behind us there was a floodplain stream for water runoff from overbuilding, a boggy mess of overgrown weeds 300 ft wide that extended for several miles, an eyesore but nice for privacy. Through an unusual lack of self interest by the city government, funds were found to give us 800 native KY saplings for about a half mile, which we planted. Then last spring, the city chopped down some dead trees, chemically burned the weeds, then reseeded the whole area with "Native Kentucky Grasses", translation; flowering weeds that grow in KY, and do not spread like Kudzu. By August, I walked in the weeds and mud and got these images(Used a zone plate pinhole on a windy day, so blame some of the blurriness on each effect). This morning it was 11 degrees Fahrenheit, and dead out there(Yes we have winter in the upper south), but I plan to come back to this site in the Spring when more colors appear.
