Carina Moreno of Watsonville, California (right) and Wendy Rodriguez of Los Angeles, at hotel check-in for their IBA junior flyweight world title fight.
With both boxing camps traveling from the west coast, the fighters ended up sharing a Saab turboprop on a 50-minute flight from Houston, Texas to Lake Charles, Louisiana.
Everything remained calm, and to this photographer's relief Carina and Wendy didn't start agruing over who got the last bag of peanuts!
I didn't get up the nerve to break out the camera during the flight, as I didn't want to be the one to trigger
the fight to be held in advance at 20,000 feet. Perhaps a wise move, since their boxing gloves were probably stowed in the plane's cargo area.
Moreno and Rodriguez would meet in an IBA world title showdown near the gulf coast in Hurricane Rita recovery area,
before a packed house at Courshatta Casino Resort in Kinder, Louisiana.
The smiles didn't last for long.
Photographer's editorial: "This image may be somewhat deceiving, as Wendy arrived wearing platform heels. Looks like the psychological fight may have already started. Ah, all in fun!
