Israel's Negev Desert, With Sde Boker, Ein Yahav and Eilat
The Negev - mile after mile of beautiful desolation - comprises about two-thirds of Israel's land area. Almost unbelievably, however, it also produces the majority of Israel's fresh fruits and vegetables. Its farms include thousands of acres of greenhouses covered with plastic sheets and irrigated with pipes that dispense water one drop at a time. The pictures in this gallery include the Negev's desert scenery; as well as the cooperative farming community (moshav) of Ein Yahav in the Arava Valley; the desert home and gravesite of David Ben Gurion, Israel's first Prime Minister, in Sde Boker; the dramatic Ramon Crater; and a few random shots from Eilat.
