Return to Berlin, August 1964 and August 2008

Photos from a week's vacation in Berlin. I've also included scans of some black and white pictures I took with my Minox on a visit in 1964. (If you're not familiar with this tiny camera, see the photo below of the Minox concealed in a necktie at the Stasi Museum.)

The contrasts between 2008 and 1964 are, not surprisingly, quite remarkable.

Nice gallery. When I've visited first time in Berlin, the free walking tour was like an excellent place to start. Berlin offers tourists a wide range of attractions beginning with the Brandenburg Gate, Altes Museum and Berlin wall. These places are really worth visit. http://www.europevoyage.net/top-10-things-to-do-in-berlin.html

I turned 13 in Aug 1964. I traveled to E. Berlin with my mother and older sister that month to visit my late father's relatives. Strange memories....but I do remember gray, dreary and foreboding scenes, very much like your photos. My mother drove us through E. Germany to Berlin on the autobahn - an American woman, alone with 2 daughters driving there was almost unheard of. Thanks for you pictures.
