The Parramatta River roughly divides Sydney in half, splitting the north side from the south side. It's the river which empties into Sydney Harbour to the east. About half way to the west (depending on how far west you regard Sydney as sprawling to), you'll find Homebush Bay. This was the site of the primary Olympic stadium for the 2000 Olympic Games.
Once the site of a cluster of heavy industries which took advantage of both the water and transport provided by the river, it had become something of polluted wasteland by the final quarter of the 20th century. The decision was made to move the industry out and rehabilitate the land. What was once a heavily polluted industrial zone surrounded by mangrove swamps is now the location of parkland and new, upmarket waterside apartment blocks... surrounded by mangrove swamps.
Despite the obvious photo opportunities I haven't done a lot of shooting out there... yet.
