This airplane is an Edge, built in the United States by Zivko. This particular airplane is flown by Kirby Chamblis, whose record of accomplishments is clearly visible on the tail.
All Russian-built Sukhoi aerobatic aircraft, including the three I've owned, have radial engines, giving them the distinctive round cowl shape. They are also blind as a bat on final.
The airplane pictured is fitted with a Textron/Lycoming opposed cylinder "vowel series" engine, giving the cowling a more slender forward-tapered shape.
I had the great privilege of knowing Ian. He's missed by his family and friends.
