This is what I look like when I go birding or guiding. Top-of-the-line binoculars, tape-recorder and two iPods loaded with birdsounds from South America.
My camera equipment is a Canon 7D with a 100-400 mm zoom.
If I drive I use my own Nissan Pathfinder 2003 as some roads in Ecuador are in pretty bad shape.
I also have a significant number of recordings, mostly from Ecuador and Peru, and over 700 are uploaded on the excellent Xeno-canto website for free use. www.xeno-canto.org
My contact info is: Juan de Illanez, edificio Double Diamond, Urb Jardines del Batan, Quito, Ecuador

Hej!

Hi Roger, I was looking at the Wild Sumaco site to see my image of the Coppery-chested Jacamar that Bonnie had added. I love birdwatching but I really get charged up about taking photos. I saw your name on a few photos and so I typed it in and came to your site. You have some terrific photos! I see that you have a Nikon and I have a Canon..just sold my 20D to buy a 40D as it is quieter and has a better spot focus. I have the 100-400 IS and had thought about the 300 f4 but opted for the 70-200 f4 IS as my back up lense. I also like to take photos of the landscape on our birding trips so it would work better (I also have a Nissan 02)
My husband, Paul Prevett and I were birding with Charlie last Nov. on both slopes around Quito. We had a great time.
Most of my photos find their way into my external hard drives and I then use them for reference for what ever paintings I do of wildlife. I wish I had more time for photography but I am addicted to paint.
Enjoy your birding in Ecuador. We sure did.
