My Best Buy

Several comments about the M3 and lenses shown at this gallery HERE got me searching
for the Instruction manual, receipts, and such. In the manual, I found the Price List.
I bought the M3 as a 'shop demo' and it was discounted further. I got the 50 f2,
the 35 f3.5 bug-eye and later the f4 90 rigid. I couldn't afford anything else - the
prices to me were outrageous! How times have changed. A leather case costs this now!
And later, when I bought the meter, it was the original price of the 35mm bug eye.

Assuming 4 percent average inflation makes that $400 in 1958 $2,956 today. Gear like this "felt" expensive in those days because it was. Then, as now, quality camera lenses can turn out to be a pretty good investment when compared with other options.

Wow, over $400 in 1958..must have been a fortune back then. It is quite expensive to buy a Leica today. In Norway you have to pay $7.700,- for the M8 camerabody and $2500 for the 50 f2 lens. A huge investment, but if it will last four decades maybe it is worth the price.
