The Light VII
Charleston SC
8AM Sunday. Early Sunlight. Church Entrance Wall.
The Camera
There is an interesting flattening and confusion of perspective here. The outer vertical forms are
actually round tapered columns close to the camera, reaching to the vaulted ceiling, and they are about 12 feet (4m)
from the wall and wall niches to the rear. There is barely enough difference in light values to separate the various forms.
If you stare at the image, the columns recede and become concave - maybe 'behind' the plane of the wall. This
'flattening/confusion' is a case where the viewfinder does not tell you everything!
Is this abstract design too flat? Does it matter?
