While living in Germany and Holland for many years until 1983, I travelled through the western part of Austria more than a few times. The only town we visited since it is on the way to Italy, where I did my fieldwork, is Innsbruck. Vienna, being on the eastern side of the country was pretty much of a detour back then. Recently, when we planned to see the Passion Play in Oberamergau we included the trip to visit Vienna and Prague as a part of some sort of... pilgrimage tour.
This capital city of Austria is known for its beautiful landmark structures. Beautiful palaces, churches, museums, theaters and libraries can be seen there. A world capital of music, the city played host to famous composers, including Richard Strauss and of course, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. We stayed only 4 days in Vienna and as such, we could only visit the most famous places.
Photographic tidbits:
This time around we visited several historical European cities. With that in mind, I put more emphasis on the wider end of the focal length range for my lens selection. As such I took my 17mm tilt-and-shift lens with me on this trip, which I used quite a bit more for indoor shots.
