Duty Call

Serengeti National Park

This pair took me by surprise and I didn't have time to switch my camera setup. They were some 10-15 meters closer to us when they were sitting around halfway asleep. The images I first captured were frame filling and I was happy, snapping away. All the sudden, the lioness stood up and walked further away, the lion stood up and sniffed the spot where the lioness was and he followed her. They mated right there and then and it happened so fast. In a few seconds, it was done and over with. After that they just dropped at the spot and went back to sleep again. I didn't have the chance to change my setup for more reach. Oh, well. Yes, the lioness is indeed collared alright for tracking purposes but this took place in the wild.
