This temple was built in honor of the Chinese Great Admiral Zheng He, also called Sam Po Kong, who visited the area in 1405 during the reign of Kublai Khan of the Yuan Dynasty from China. The grotto was used as a shelter for his assitant who fell ill during the voyage. He died at this location. Several of his staff remained at this location and assimilated with locals although Zheng He continued his voyage.
