Jamu cannot be translated directly into medication although it has medicinal purposes alright. It consists of ground herbs of known, traditionally proven medicinal value. There are various types of jamu for various types of "illnesses". Similarly, jamu doesn't cure any illnesses as such, claims that cannot be scientifically proven but addresses more body deficiencies and promote more the overall well being.
This particular vendor had her display and you can try the different jamus at a fancy resort hotel in Bogor. But I still see traditional jamu vendors all over places although less in Jakarta.
