After a hiatus on this site for almost 2 years I started uploading new images again. No, I didn't stop shooting; actually I have been shooting more but simply got distracted from keeping the galleries on this site up. Oh, well.

In March, we went back to Iceland in an attempt to capture the end of the winter there. March is reported to be the best month of the year to see the Aurora borealis and to capture more winter sceneries of Iceland. In terms of the Northern Lights we got lucky; the color of the light display on 17 March was incredible. The winter appearance of the waterfalls was not as strong as we expected but yes, they looked different than what we saw in October, at least most of them.

Traveling in Iceland in the winter carried some disadvantages. We spent the first two days in Reykjavik, pretty much hunkering down in the hotel due to a strong storm system with blizzard, impacting much of Iceland. We changed the plan of circling Iceland somewhat; we kept on going to the northern part but we skipped the Snæfellsnes Peninsula. The rest of the itinerary remained the same. We experienced some bad weather but we also came across some great sunrise/sunset. Something that we didn't know when we made the plan was that there was a solar eclipse in Iceland on 21 March. We just witnessed that phenomenon but didn't actually take pictures of the eclipse.

Like during our previous trip to Iceland, we relied on the Icelandic Meteorological Institute website to monitor the aurora forecast and cloud cover. When they predicted a strong intensity of aurora activities on 17 March, we happened to be in an area showing a very thick cloud cover. We ended up driving for almost 2 hours, partly through a snow storm, to get away from the influence of the weather system's low. We were richly rewarded and it was absolutely well worth the effort. We got back to our lodging place after 4AM the following morning.

Photographic tidbits:
The images of the entire gallery were captured using mirrorless cameras with 3 interchangeable lenses. A week before I left for this trip, I received my copy of the newly available Canon 11-24mmL lens and it ended up being used for approximately half of this gallery. What a lens it turned out to be! But I didn't fully realize that until I reviewed the images more carefully at home on the large monitor. The time displayed on the exif data is Pacific Day Time. The sequence of the images on this gallery is largely chronological and under the motto of "less is more", I limit the number of images in this gallery to only 60.
