Tortoise Nesting

An adult red-foot tortoise (Geochelone carbonaria)
digging a nest in the garden. She did not do a very
good job of it - the hole was not deep enough so the eggs
did not drop down as they should have. She laid a total
of 4 eggs but since the hole was not right she could not
cover them properly. I removed the eggs - dug the hole
deeper, replaced the eggs and covered them with soil.
With any luck there will be baby tortoise hatchlings
in about 4 months.

How I envy ur Redfoot. My redfoot is also a female but I have trouble looking for a male. Each year she lays a bunch of eggs. Unfertilized though.
Good luck with the eggs!

this happens to the ones that pass through our property too - poor Mama picks some poor places and the birds are dive-bombing just waiting to go for the eggs! good shots
