This is my last entry for the year 2005. Had breakfast at Tanglin Nasi Lemak Sdn Bhd with photo forumers from http://www.cari.com.my forum. Then i walked to Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) building which is about 10 minutes walk from Tanglin Nasi Lemak. Along the way stopped by at National Mosque and snapped a few frames.
Now something abt KTMB Building.
The building was designed by British architect named Mr. A.B. Hubbock in 1913 and completed in November 1917 after being halted by the 1st World War. The cost of building it was RM780,422. The building adopted Moorish unique architecture and together with elements from 13th and 14th century Ottoman and Mogul empires as well as Gothic and ancient Greek designs.
The ground floor has 97 large arched windows of Gothic design and four circular arches of smaller ones. The high and wide verandas create a cooling effect and suitable for high temperature of Malaysia.
This building suffered serious damage in its lifetime; North Wing was bombed during Second World War and in Nov 14, 1968 the second floor of the same wing was gutted by fire.
In 1983, the KTM Berhad headquarters was gazetted as an "Old Monument and Historical Site" and is fully protected under Sections 15 and 16, Historical Relics Act 168/1976.
