I do not see how you can blame the photographer for the "lack of balance in framing and general composition" of the model. A photographer can only do so much. Notice how he used the dog, as a juxtaposition so that people can look at the person and say, ahh...he is human after all!

I think it was more of an injustice the photographer did to the subject. The lack of balance in framing and general composition. Good thing the male subject more than compensates with his natural photogenic appeal

I think the guy holding the dog looks like a very handsome, smart and witty individual. He's also very kind and humble and extremely talented. I don't know him personally but I get that from him looking at his picture. He's a very good subject.
