The Mandarin translation for Mahavira Hall is ‘Da Xiong Bao Dian’. ‘Da Xiong’ refers to Sakyamuni Buddha, foremost, powerful and well respected by all. In this most important hall houses three Buddhas namely Sakyamuni, Batshaiyaguru and Amitabha.

I've never been to chi lin nunnery before when I was in HongKong. But I just like the environment there. It bring back a lot of childhood memories for me. Is just make me feel good.Btw, not to confuse anyone, I'm not HongKonger. I only purely love the place. It was part of the reason why I started learning Cantonese,( HongKong Style Cantonese ).Oops, am I reveal too much about my age ?? haha
Anyway, for the "Big Male Tower". I ever heard a senior said, it was an appreciation show to a "Lo Han" in the Chinese God history. As for the "Tai Hong", is actually the name of the "Lo Han". Hope I remember it correctly. haha

//I don't know what this means. Every place for worship has a temple named like this.//
Read from right to left, the three gold hued characters are "big", "male", "tower(Could also mean castle, and on rare occasion, a form of address for royalty.)". I have no idea either why it's there, and just in case anyone is wondering, it's definitely male or of male quality, not "yang" which in my opinion would have made more sense. But what do I know about temples besides being there a few times, I left HK as a child, and miss her terribly, I really hope mainland won't screw the Pearl of the East over when the 50 years are up.
