The hawfinch is a large, heavily built finch, with a large head, bull "neck" and a powerful conical shaped bill : the mandibles and their muscles are so powerful they can crush cherry stones by applying a force of over 500kn, wich is equivalent to about 60 tonnes for a human. So they can eat cherry seeds of wich they are particulary fond. This winter, this one is coming in my garden to eat sunflower's seeds in my cribs. It is soon time for the birds to search their females. I would be happy to observe the lovers... Perhaps, one day... in my garden ???
