| Webster Fire, Rescue, and EMS responded to a serious rollover accident on I-395 south, near exit #1, on May 3rd. An elderly couple in a Ford Taurus traveling in the right hand lane of I-395 apparently cut across the passing lane in an attempt to turn into a cross-over between the southbound and northbound lanes of the divided highway. The Taurus was struck broadside by a full-size Dodge Ram pick up truck, at which time the car veered off the highway and rolled over into the median, coming to rest on it's wheels. The elderly couple was seriously injured, and both were pinned in the vehicle. The Webster Rescue Squad had both patients cut out of the demolished car in about 15 minutes. The woman passenger in the car ultimately succumbed to her injuries, and passed away at UMASS Hospital in Worcester a few hours following the accident. The driver of the truck sustained less serious injuries. |
