Shortly after 22:30 hrs on September 3rd, the Uxbridge FD was dispatched to a reported fire in an occupied multi-family dwelling located at 629 E. Hartford Avenue. Dispatch was receiving numerous calls reporting a fully involved apartment building with possible trapped occupants. Firefighters arrived and were advised by some of the building's occupants that there were still two people trapped in a first floor apartment. First due jakes attempted to get into the apartment from the rear of the building but were thwarted due to heavy fire and high heat conditions. The fire had already extended extensively through the old wood frame, former farm house. Unfortunately, a mother and her 6 year old daughter were inside the first floor apartment and perished in the fast moving fire. The fire raced throughout the entire building in less than 90 minutes. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time, and is being investigated by the Uxbridge FD and the State Fire Marshals Office. |
