Looking at your galleries reminds me of a photographer's categorization we sometimes use here in the Netherlands to describe someone that does not limit him/herself to one subject alone, but tries to "eat" anything on the way and still show some appetite. The translation for this Dutch word would be 'glutton'. It may have a peculiar ring to it, but I consider it to be a compliment, and you definately derserve such a 'title'. Alan, your photography is not only top-notch, but also very versatile, and that is bound to make both you and the viewer happy :) Ron Langeveld

Hi Alan, Wonderful gallery! Really enjoyed seeing what you chose as your favorites, from a very large and impressive body of terrific photos. All are really great, but the simplicity, composition, DOF and beautiful colors of your straw photo, has made it one of my all time favorites.... by you or any photographer! Curt

I use Corel PhotoPaint 9, but any photo editing sw that lets you create a mask should be able to create the effect you're referring to. The B&W's in this gallery were created with SilverOxide's Tri-X plug-in. This is a Photoshop plug in, but it works in PP9 too. Thanks for your comments.

I can't beleive it, your photos are incredible. How often do you travel for pictures? I have been to some of the locations but did not see these attractions in this perspective.

Thanks Clifton. The wine bottle was taken with a flash bounced off a light oak cabinet to the left of the frame. If you look closely, you can see it's reflection on the glass. Just a coincidence that you're post comes on the release date of the 2001 Beaujolais Nouveau?
