This gallery shows a series of pictures of the Great Mosque of Pekanbaru in Riau, Indonesia (well, if you want to know where the hell it is...just pick a world map and find where the Sumatra island is...then move your finger to the middle of the island...and if you correctly follow this simple guidance , then it is likely that your finger landed to the city of Pekanbaru ). Known as an oil city in Indonesia, it only takes you less than 45 minutes from Pekanbaru to Singapore by plane...and it costs you less than 20 buck to fly to KL, Malaysia (using a budget airline though :-)
The mosque had been recently renovated and it now becomes a popular landmark in Pekanbaru. Located right at the heart of the city, this mosque occupies a vast area of land and surrounded by a greenery garden. Dominated by green and blue with yellow strip ornaments, the domes of this mosque can definitely refresh your eyes, especially in the afternoon where a 30-35 0C is not rare to experience in this hot and humid city. The architecture of this building is just like other big mosques in Indonesia, where the big dome is the centre of the building, surrounded by small domes and guarded by two tall towers. However, you may also see some influences from 'Melayu' culture, which is inspired by the neighborhood country, Malaysia.
