NP 1970 Porsche 914-6 GT Project - sn 914.043.1722

IN A CLASS BY ITSELF? Possibly...

Not your typical, or ordinary '914-6 GT Conversion Project'. The conversion of this factory 914-6 car to '914-6 GT' is being done using nothing less than a complete "Factory 914-6 GT Holmologation Kit". For those of you who don't know. In 1970 only 400 of such 914-6 GT kits were produced by the Porsche factory so the "914-6 GT" model race car could be legitimize and 'homolagated' for competition meeting the requirements of the FIA. This 914-6 GT has one of the 400 kits, and what's also remarkable, nearly all the components are "NOS" (New Old Stock) still showcasing their respective original Porsche factory applied part-number labels. Without question, this is significant, not only for historical reference, but for preservation purposes as well. Some people claim to also have a 'complete Porsche factory-produced 914-6 GT homologation kit'. Ask to see photos---very unlikely you'll ever see those. The 914-6 GT Homologation Kit is rare as 'rare' can be...

The definition of the word "Homologation": (from the verb homologate, meaning "to approve or confirm officially") is the process of certifying or approving a product to indicate that it meets regulatory standards and specifications, such as safety and technical requirements. Further, in motorsports, homologation is the approval process through which a vehicle, a race track, or a standardized part is required to go for certification to race in a given league or series. The regulations and rules that must be met are generally set by the series' sanctioning body.[1] The word is derived from the Greek homologeo—literally "I say the same"—for "agree." In racing series that are "production-based", meaning that the vehicles entered in the series are based on production vehicles for sale to the public, homologation requires not only compliance with a racing series' technical guidelines (for example, engine displacement, chassis construction, suspension design and such), but it often includes minimum levels of sales to ensure that vehicles are not designed and produced solely for racing in that series. Since such vehicles are primarily intended for the race track, practical use on public roads is generally a secondary design consideration, so long as government regulations are met.

This 914-6 GT project is based on probably the one of the worlds most complete and documented Porsche factory homologation kit. Just about all the OEM factory 914-6 T parts used in this car were sourced from the old Vasek Polak racing inventory. In reality, it should be labeled the "Vasek Polak 914-6 GT Project". Thank you Carl Thompson for all the parts and support. Thank you Mark Spraker for all your impeccable fabrication talent and skills. Without you Mark, I know for a fact this GT project would have never become a world-class contender.
