Lars Westerlund's 1970 Porsche 914-6 GT - sn 914.043.1481

...Interesting 914-6 with GT features that was recently acquired by Lars Westerlund. Here is wat Lars had to say about the car...

...Hello Armando. I have now purchased the 914 043 1481! I am still waiting for input from the UK car reg authorities. According to info the car came from France in 1989 with a Nato pilot. The guy just registered the car in the UK and then sold it off (to Sweden). If that proves correct, I should be able to get the French car reg nr and then continue my search in France. That will be a challenge I am sure!

In my opinion, here are the arguments that the car was probably raced in its early history:

(1) When new the car was sold with factory option “limited slip differential”. I mean, who the hell needs that on a 110 bhp 914/6 to be used on the street only? In my opinion, this is an indication that there is a fair likelihood at least, that the first owner had some plans for the car. The car was purchased new by Schultz in Ratingen Germany, they later bought the 914 143 0242 Reip GT in 1971. I have received answer from them and they have no additional info on my car, all the old hands have already retired.

(2) The car has a roll cage, the sheet metal fender flares, an add on tank (with a hole in the dash with a nice looking metal sign saying “Tank”. I guess it had a switch for changing over to the add on tank or something), upgraded brakes with vented discs in the rear and aluminium callipers up front, anti sway bars front and rear, quick release catches on the engine lid, race seat and four point harnesses. All of these things seem as if they could be from the right era. I think it also has the rear chassis reinforcements. I will take a closer look later, there is a little to much undercoating to see clearly.

On the other hand, the front mounted oil cooler the car has now was installed by the guy that I bought it from. The car was never equipped with a front mounted oil cooler before that.

By the way, I am also waiting for input from the 914-6 Club in Germany. I have mailed to several persons there in English and German but no response. Do you have any tip whom I should contact to see if they have any info on my car?

I enclosed some pics; sorry for the quality. Compared to yours anyhow! I must say that I am amazed over your website, how the hell do you find the time to keep it updated with such quality info?! I will send some more pics later with more technical details. But I anyhow throw in one pic now on what might be the rear chassis reinforcements. Regards, LW
