I have been following it on the Armando site. When I saw that Stoddard had done the original work, it reminded me of the first time we raced Chuck in the early 60's at Connellsville, PA- an airport course. Chuck had his Alfa Veloce and my dad had his Speedster. We won, but I don't think anybody had beaten Stoddard in those parts, so he protested my dad for removing the air cleaners. It was legal, but my dad being new to higher level racing said that if Stoddard felt that way about the air cleaner removal that Stoddard could have the win. Later, a bystander brought an article stating that air cleaner removal was legal. But the stewards said that my dad had already conceded- oh well!! That was the same race that I first saw Donohue racing his Elva Courier. I just remember his crew being a rowdy bunch! Growing up, I got to see many future big name drivers while going to the track with my dad- Posey with his 904 at Vineland, NJ, Revson with his Morgan at Bridgehampton, Penske with his Zerex Special at Bridgehampton, and Hangsen in the Maserati Birdcage. Bob and Al Holbert had their shop about 45 minutes away. Al asked my dad to help sort out his 914-6 at Pocono. My dad misses a shift and spins the car! I saw that you had prepared cars for the Rennsport. My dad was in an article about the Northeast Porsche guys in the Lime Rock 2001 Rennsport book. He was right in there with Hans Stuck with his 4 lap records at Lime Rock! Back in the day. Keep up the progress with your 914-6 GT. Ron Zitza of Zotz Racing www.zotzracing.com does the track support and driver coaching for our car. His dad raced Speedsters with my dad. Ron is terrific! I will keep trying to drive faster so that we finally can get the car in the winners circle. Heck its the least I can do in tribute to my dad and people who have spent time working on the car in the past.

Gregg- Once again thank you for the photo's. It really nice to see the car being raced after sitting dormant for so long. It's especially nice to see it up front where it belongs. The photo's bring back some great memories, as you know I maintained your car for one of the previous owners and had a several driving stints it too. I hope to get my car to the fab shop for some repair work later this winter. www.pbase.com/9146gt/image/30828448 We did several road rallies with it this year. Gregg Frey 10-Jul-2006 02:07 Bernie, In its 2nd race, here is a picture of the "newer" 914-6http://www.pbase.com/9146gt/image/63238312 - We replaced the irreplaceable deck lids and added a rear spoiler. This picturehttp://www.pbase.com/9146gt/image/63238314 was taken at the July Watkins Glen HSR. I finished 3rd in class (13 out of 38 overall) in the Enduro- without 5th gear!!!http://www.pbase.com/9146gt/image/63238315 We still can not get it to shift reliably into 5th. I will probably get the complete WEVO kit to get it to shift reliably. The engine routinely saw 8600 RPM in 4th with our short stoke 2.5 engine. We also replaced the Webers with PMO carbs after the butterfly broke and also changed to an internally regulated alternator after it too gave up. A 5 blade fan was also fitted. Now I just have to tweak the driver.
