Minilite Magnesium Wheels Installed Sample Photos

...These wheels were often used on the 914-6 GT race cars. Made from Magnesium, they are very, very light and relatively strong for their weight. The "early" Minilite wheels were made from Magnesium and later in the years changed to forged Aluminum. The Minilite Magnesium wheels have become a vintage racing wheel that is now very difficult to find and sought after by the growing vintage racing community.

Hi Allen, I have 3 wheels made of magnesium which I thought were original Minilites. However, I have been unable to find another w/ a channel around the outside rim for mounting balancing weights w/ 2 small set screws. Are you familiar w/ these magnesium wheels and/or did Minilite make such a style. These wheels came from a Sunbeam Alpine. Thanks

Hello Allen and thank you for taking the time to reply and research the subject. I have yet to meet anyone that remembers ever racing a vintage "Maxilite" wheel. As you indicated, and I tend to agree with you, it looks like the Maxilite wheel is a reproduction of the very well known and established Magnesium racing wheel, the Minilite (very well documented in photos and many published Porsche books). Anyway, if you do find something I've missed, please let me know. Say "Hi!" to Glenn, great guy!

JUST CURIOUS HAVE YOU CHECKED WITH COMPANY THAT MADE MINI LITES? THE MAXI-LITES LOOK AS IF THEY ARE THE SAME. MAYBE THEY WERE KNOCK OFFS BY SOME OBSCURE COMPANY. I HAD A MERLYN SPORTS RACER FROM THE 60'S AND IT HAD MINI-LITES AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. THERE WERE A LOT OF COMPANIES AT THAT TIME MAKING COPIES. MAYBE SOME ONE IN ENGLAND WOULD KNOW. I WILL LOOK IN SOME OLD BOOKS AND MAGAZINES. BY THE WAY DAVID GLENN ASKED ME THIS QUESTION. SINCERELY ARCH ALLEN M. HILL
