This is a picture gallery of the getrag swap into Mikey's red 245 (MikeJr. on Turbobricks).
Actually, it was a complete automatic to manual transmission swap, so there was a lot more involved... like removing the flexplate/installing a pilot bushing and flywheel, removing the old brake pedal and installing the clutch-brake pedal assembly (not to mention acquiring one first), installing the clutch cable, and fitting it all together.
We accomplished the swap in 2 weekends... actually about 4 days total. It took us 2 days to mock up and fabricate a tranny crossmember and mount, another day to install the transmission and drivetrain, and the last day to install the clutch pedals and get it working... We probably could have accomplished the fab. in less time because we made several templates and restarted our work a couple times because we didn't like what we had made. You could concievably perform this swap in a day if you had the materials before time and you weren't swapping over from an automatic... This also assumes that you will have access to a welder, a grinder, a drill, etc.
All of the materials for the fabrication, like the steel 90 degree angle iron and the steel brace rods were obtained at Lowes (or Home Depot). The driveshaft bolts/nuts were also obtained from home depot. The special fully threaded 12x1.75mm 60mm length bolts for the adapter plate were obtained from Mcmaster Carr.
The initial test drive was a blast. The tranny feels much like my volvo m47. Shifts great, no vibration. Overall, very rewarding.
Edit 12/5/06 The tranny has been fully road tested many many many times since it's installation in 2005. Many a 120mph run in 4th gear, burnouts, dropping the clutch, dragstrip runs, all with no issue. This transmission has held up extremely well to MikeJr.'s 300+wheel hp abuse.
