I was stationed in NKP 70-71 with the 23rd TASS and I think of it as my best tour of duty in the USAF. I took hundreds of slides while I was there and will now scan them into digital prints to post. Thanks for the memories and the motivation.

Thank you for your kindness to post some pictures to share to the one who missing Nakhon Phanom. It is my mother home town. I was there as a child. Now my elder brother lives there. I visit him very New Year's Eve. Nakhon Phanom is my favorite place. It is peace and cool. The old houses along the great river of south east asia are mostly tared down, unfortunately. I feel so bad about that. I always say to my brother and everyone I knew, that these old houses are the sign- the sense of place- of Nakhon Phanom. I talk to the people there, some of them have the same idea - to keep them. On 22-24 january 2010 I hold a seminar to more than 120 students there. It was about the conservation the heritage of Nakhon Phanom. The Students and the people there were very happy. You can have a look in the web site of my university: www.kmitl.ac.th , and click the faculty of architecture. I teach there. You can see some pictures of the activity. A group of the students presented a film about the fishermen by the Mee Khong River. I will try my best to keep this "sense of place" of Nakhon Phanom. Please so kind if I may use your pictures to show to my students at the university. I would like to tell them that some people recognise how wonderful Thailand is. They are Thai themselves, they should love Thailand much more than the others. Thank you again for your kindness.

; worked in the hospital - saw that picture too, and 1999 to present NKP Community 29 has my house from the early 70's in the right hand corner - two story cement/wood. Sorry you didn't look me up when you were here in 2002. If you get back again, hollar. I don't plan on going any place.

Great pics. I had a place in town from 70-72. I was Married to a wonderfull Thai lady.I didnt see my house though.

Thanks for the memories. I was a civilian with the USIA who lived in town with my wife and two children (one born while we were there) between late 1966 and mid-1968. We were the second American family in the town - the other was a missionary. Although my work required that I spend 15 nights per month in villages, I also participated in the weekly briefing for new troops. My topic was the insurgency which was centered in Nakhon Phanom province. I occasionally got rides to remote strips in U-10s, U-6s, and once an A-1H, and I got to know many of the officers on the base. Interesting times

Thanks for posting the pics. Brings back sooo many memories. I was there June 1969 to October 1969, with 556th Red Horse Squadron. Oversaw a lot of construction projects. We drove some of those blue Datsun pickup's.
