I recently had the good fortune to have a few particularly cooperative 'Pond Skater' models (also known as Water Striders, water skimmers and Jesus Bugs) so I have decided to dedicate a gallery just to them rather than lumping them in with my other bug (Hemiptera) shots. These shots were taken using a coolpix 995 and here the swivel side which allows the axis of lens to be very low and close to parallel with the pond surface was a real plus. This is one type of shot were a DSLR would have a hard job competing! I'll just have to keep this old camera until it dies.... shame there's no real equivalent left on the market.
