Sundog or parhelion
This sundog or parhelion, which I spotted close to sunset may not be the best example of this atmospheric optical phenomenon, but it is one of the better ones I have seen in our area. They can be observed at 22 degrees either side of the sun or as part of a halo around the sun and are caused by small hexagonal plate shaped ice crystals that make up cirrus or cirrostratus clouds. I have a shot of another example of this phenomenon here http://www.pbase.com/455rocket/image/92385785
