Mantis 3 ( Tenodera aridifolia sinensis )

Mantis 3 ( Tenodera aridifolia sinensis )

This species of Mantis originates from China
but can commonly be found in the USA. It is
a large species usually brown, or less commonly,
green (like this specimen). In the adult form
it has a bright green stripe along the outer
edge of its forewings. I meet this specimen
(featured in 4 photos in this gallery) while
hiking in Chimney Rock Park, North Carolina.

Oh yes, colours are really great and to see a shot of one with blue behind it is quite unusual as most pics I have seen are usually taken around bushes etc. This shot certainly gives a good portrayal of how dangerous looking those spikes are. Great shot.

Great coloring, looks a wee older than the ones I've found this year. Not sure I've seen this species as an adult, but the stripe along the face reminds me of one immature I've seen. Nice shots.
