Water Babies

I have been asked by lots of people how I did this, and what equipment was used. I donīt have any underwater housing for either of my cameras but I wanted to try this out before the end of summer so I improvised using a fish tank, a method pioneered by Tripanfal in his winning entry for the fujimugs "People in Action" challenge.

I can see some of you falling off your chair at the thought of risking putting a D70 inside a fishtank. Itīs a bit more safe than it first sounds. Our pool has steps down one side, so I place the tank on the first step and while I sit on the side I put my feet inside it for stability. I then put the camera in the tank and bribe my children not to splash me. Itīs not ideal, and it is risky. The tank has to be tall enough to stop waves lapping over the top, I have a good 12cms of clearance. The main disadvantage over underwater housing is that you canīt actually see what you are shooting!!

Yes, I am saving up for underwater housing! In the meantime, this seems to work very well.
