Hubbard Glacier is the largest tidewater glacier in North America. It is 76 miles long, 7 miles wide, and 600 feet tall (350 feet above the waterline and 250 feet below the waterline) at its terminal face. It is one of the few glaciers in Alaska that is still advancing (currently advancing at a rate of 80 feet per year). The glacier starts at an elevation of 19.850 feet on Mt. Logan in Canada's Yukon Territory. The ice at its terminal in approximately 450 years old. Due to the amount of ice in the water and current conditions, we were only able to get 5 miles from the glacier. The glacier's terminus is in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, although I am not sure how far into the fjord the national park extends.
