FUNKY NAILS ON GRATIOT DETROIT MICHIGAN
LARRY DAVID BRADEN

FUNKY NAILS ON GRATIOT DETROIT MICHIGAN

On Gratiot. I don't know. I am not
a girl but the name doesn't seem
like it would appeal.
I drove near here to see what was on
the site of one of my favorite
childhood haunts, the Ramona Theater.

Well, Jason, they pass the savings on to the customer. That's all I am allowed to say.

Plus, they had to squeeze in through that gap in the plywood? Not very accommodating and certainly not handicapped accessible.

The real question here is what are doing on Gratiot ???

Doesn't look as if the name, Funky Nails, did much to spur business. These days you almost need a nearby commuter station to make small, independent businesses work. That seems to be a critical factor for the villages in suburban Chicago. Otherwise people take their trade to shopping malls...or the Internet.

I find it very sad to visit old haunts and see what had been bustling boarded up. I guess it's true that you can't ever really go back.

The ramona theater was torn down in 1978-79. it used to stand where the large parking lot at the corner of mcnichols & gratiot is today. i know because i used to go there when i was a kid and i still live the neighborhood today.

No, sir. I think it was torn down about twenty years ago. Maybe longer.

Was the Ramona Theater still there?

I was just kind of fascinated with the names of independent businesses. these has alway caused me to stop and wonder what they were thinking.
