That 70's Gallery

As the 1970's decade emerged, the country was still embroiled in the Vietnam conflict, civil rights was a hot button issue, Nixon was in the White House and I was graduating from high school. My birthday (November 3rd) was the 300th ping-pong ball selected in the military draft lottery for my birth year. If your birthday was among the first 125 birthdays picked, you were going to be drafted unless you had a deferrment. Really, that's how they did it then.

At my freshman orientation at Temple University in July of 1970, our orientation group consisting of 20 teenagers had to take turns introducing themselves, stating their high school, home town and declared major. I noticed the stunning blonde in our group immediately and didn't listen to a word spoken by anyone else that session. As we left the room and headed to the next session on the orientation agenda, I told myself that she was way out of my league and concentrated on the program notes we were given. I was shocked when she tapped me on the shoulder and started a conversation with me as we walked. We began a friendship that day and had several classes together over the next couple of semesters. Dating began the following year and the rest is history....our history anyway.

By the time the ball dropped on New Years 1980, we were married for over six years, were thrilled at the birth of daughter Erica (1974) & son Wayne (1976) and were out of Philly and into the Bucks County suburbs. We had great times with our longtime friends and also made new friends in Bucks County. My memories from the 1950's and 60's seem somewhat blurred now but my world has been sharply focused since I first noticed that blonde in July of 1970. Sharon and I celebrate our 41st anniversay this year (2014) and we feel blessed to have two great children (both happily married to great spouses, Stephen & Katherine), a granddaughter (Amelia) and two twin grandsons (Gus & Leo) who mean the world to us and great friends to share our experiences with. And it all really started in the 70's.

Photography was certainly not my strong suit back then (some may say it's not my strong suit now either) but I just love the snapshots, no matter how technically awful they appear. All of the images were scanned on a low tech scanner and I hope to replace them with better images eventually. Fine art photography, it's not. But I'll take these images over fine art photography every time.

This gallery is still under construction as I am scanning more images and uploading them as I have time.
